Born in Rome in 1956, he graduated in Modern Literature and then he obtained a Ph.D. in Turin with Nicola Tranfaglia on the history of the Italian judiciary.

He got the certificate from the State Archives of Rome and, since then, he has been doing this job.
Among works in the historical archives, those worth-mentioning are that of the philosopher Ugo Spirito, of Banco di Roma, of the Italian furniture Institute (IMI), of the former psychiatric hospital of Santa Maria della Pietà in Rome, of Bettino Craxi, of the journalist Paolo Monelli, of the Cassa per il Mezzogiorno, of the psychiatrist Franco Basaglia, of the papers on the massacres declassified for the Renzi directive, of the Italian Banking Association (ABI), of Leopoldo Franchetti, of Mario Capanna and of Antonio Scialoja.

From 1998 to 2012, he was the director of the project “The Archives of the Twentieth Century”.

From 1978 to 1981, he has been a railway-worker, an experience which left a mark in his life-path.
